Saturday Songs
We received this playlist from the folks putting on the Dana Point Turkey Trot (the sixth largest Turkey Trot in the US). We figured it was worth sharing!
Whether you’re jogging down a dirt trail, sprinting across a field or pacing yourself through a four-mile route, the perfect playlist is a must. The tunes pumping through your headphones set the tone for your run while releasing proven performance-boosting effects. In preparation for the 35th annual Dana Point Turkey Trot, race-day sponsor Dick’s Sporting Goods with Brooks Sports pulled together a 15-track Run Happy Playlist. All you need to do is press play.
“Music is a legal drug for athletes,” claims Dr. Costas Karageorghis, London’s Brunel University expert on the ties between music on exercise, in his latest book Inside Sport Psychology. He claims that listening to music while running can boost performance by up to15 percent. Functioning as a motivator and distraction from the undesirables of running like fatigue, no wonder seeking the perfect music tracks seems to bump elbows with stretching and hydrating pre-race.
So what should top your running track list? Dr. Karageorghis, found the power lies in the song’s tempo. The beat sweet spot: between 120 and 140 beats-per-minute, a tempo that corresponds to the heart rate of the average exerciser. The songs listed below are hand-picked to pump you up, at the correct BPM, with pop-melodies designed to add an extra pep to your step.
